As time goes on, Stray Dog thrives more and more on brand partnerships. We've connected with some incredible interior designers and home decor content creators through the years and even still, we are thrilled when a new relationship blossoms.
Amber Shirley is the face behind @preppybohemianathome, one of our lovely new partners who is bringing Stray Dog pieces to life. Her IG bio says it all with 5 simple words - "Get outta that beige box!"
We can think of no better way to get out of a beige box than with funky, bold, and colorful designs. This is something Amber takes on with ease. Scroll down to learn more about her fun home and journey with design.
We are obsessed with your maximalist and colorful style! Where are you located?
Thank you so much! My family and I live in a little town about an hour north of Atlanta. We love that it has a small town feel without being too far away from lots of shops and restaurants.
Tell us about your home - how long have you been there and how did you find it? Was there a particular selling point for you?
My husband and I had our home built in 2019. We found the neighborhood while we were out house shopping one day. At the time we just had one 12 yr old son and a small Scottish Terrier and we fell in love with this particular floor plan. The space was perfect for our little family and we like that we were able to add lots of upgrades through the builder.
What’s your favorite room in the house?
My favorite room would have to be the kitchen and family area. It's an open concept but it feels super cozy. It's where we all spend the majority of our time.
Are you in the process of redoing any spaces right now?
Yes! I'm actually pregnant with our 2nd child so we're busy getting the house "baby ready" and I plan to start decorating the nursery within the next couple of weeks. We are so excited!
How did you fall in love with design and home decor? Would love to hear the story!
Interior design is just in my blood. My grandmother has always been an amazing decorator and growing up I remember my mom constantly starting new, amazing projects around our home. I was always encouraged to think outside the box and let my creativity shine. Interior design is just my way of doing that.
Where do you find most of the amazing pieces in your home?
I enjoy thrifting and scouring antique stores for a lot of my pieces. I think buying second-hand and having a healthy mix of old and new gives each space so much interest and character. I also have the pleasure of working with lots of amazing companies (Straydog included) that gift me incredible items.
How does social media factor into what you do?
So many years back I was a newly married, stay at home mom looking for a creative outlet. I started posting photos of our first home on Instagram. The quality of the photos were terrible and I had no clue what I was doing but, by the grace of God, things took off. I'm now a full time content creator and I offer e-design for clients all over the US. Something I never thought was possible!
Who is your favorite person or brand to follow on social media at the moment?
Oh gosh, too many to name. I'm constantly inspired by the interior design community on Instagram… there's so much talent out there! I will say, I'm forever in love with Designer Liz Caan's personal home style. It's what all my color-loving dreams are made of.
What’s in the rotation for you right now (books, podcasts, movies, shows)?
Don't tell anyone but I'm a huge reality TV junkie lol! As far as interior related material, I like a lot of interior design books. I sort of collect them and display them on my coffee tables. I think my favorite is Styled by Emily Henderson. It's an oldie but goodie and I reach for it more than anything else.
