Hello and welcome to a new week and a new month at Stray Dog! We are excited that February is here... The New Year is so overrated - anyone else agree?
As 2021 came to a close, we spent a lot of time thinking about the many ways Stray Dog is special. We are proud of what we've created and so today, we want to tell you more about us and our mission.
Here at SDD, there are a few things that everyone knows about us:
-
Made by Hand: For over 25 years, we have collaborated with local artisans in San Miguel de Allende to blend our modern style with timeworn techniques. The result is handcrafted, high quality, and finished with character.
- Made to Order: Your next statement piece isn’t manufactured in bulk - it’s waiting on you. Each item in our store is carefully handcrafted, hand painted, and available only after your order has been placed.
- Made Fair: We are committed to providing the most earth-friendly products for your home. Because of this, we ensure all paper products are recyclable and every piece is finished with natural, safe ingredients.
Those are the easy things.
But what most people don't know is that each Stray Dog purchase goes towards giving back to the community that brings life to our unique products.
-
Giving Back: We are proud of the work we create alongside our artisan community family in San Miguel de Allende and we like to show our gratitude by giving back into the community from where our goods come. Although we donate to a variety of organizations in the area (Feed the Hungry, Amigos al Cien, and others), we target a single non profit each year to help give them a boost.
This past year was San Miguel SPA (like the ASPCA in the US). This incredible organization provides hope, health, and homes for over 100 cats and dogs in need each month. Their mission also includes helping to protect dogs and cats and avoid cruelty to them, spreading the word about improving pet care, curbing overpopulation, and working with others to accomplish these goals.. They are the only no-kill shelter for cats and dogs in San Miguel.
- Providing Jobs: There is a human hand behind every Stray Dog piece. Supporting us means supporting a person, their family, and their community. If you didn't catch our blog about the new Haitian immigrants who are now working in the San Miguel warehouse, read it here.
- Providing Fair Wages: We follow fair trade practices by providing our artisan team members with the freedom to create from home. In addition, we ensure they always receive the most fair prices for their talent.
Isn't that cool?!
So you can rest assured that the gorgeous pieces you purchase for your home are good all around.
